A graduate of the University of Toronto in Sociology and Ryerson University in Still Photography, John has combined this background as a full time professor at both Georgian (1985-2011) and Canadore (1972-1982) Colleges.
During his teaching career he has taught courses in Sociology and Psychology as well as courses in Black and White Darkroom Photography, Social and Documentary Photography, Photography as Fine Art, the History of Photography and various Studio Courses. Following workshops with Freeman Patterson, he became a contributor to Miller Services (later Comstock) Stock Photography and through them published photographs in books, magazines and calendars for over two decades.
Over the years John has conducted workshops in Photography for various community groups including the Nipissing Board of Education, the Simcoe County Board of Education and Zephyr Gallery in Orillia.
John's work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions at the MacLaren Art Centre, Orillia Museum of Art and History, the Mad and Noisy Gallery, Zephyr Gallery, Quest Gallery, The Front Room Gallery, the Double Door Gallery, Toronto Contact and the University of Toronto.
